GIPS Flips for Reading

 

Become enriched as a community of GIPS readers while stretching yourself with new technology. Integration Specialists from across the district will serve as your guides on the side. (See sidebar.)

Students: There is no need to log in. That is for administration purposes only.

 

Here are 3 ways that you can become involved!

 

Go for the GOLDen Sowers!

  • Read nine out of ten 2013/ 2014 intermediate Golden Sower Award books. To continue with this challenge, set a goal to read at least a book per month. Show that you have read the books through reading counts or attendance at a book club.
  • Collect all four badges to earn a Golden Sower medal from the Go for the GOLDen Sower navigator link on the right side. (A total of four projects will be completed for four different Golden Sower Award books.)
  • Audience:  Complete the challenge by April 15, 2014 and you not only deserve a gold medal, but also earn the chance to "Hang Out" with a community of readers just like yourself. (Date TBA but some time in May.)

 

 

Non-Fiction Addiction

Option #1 Nonfiction Addiction Padlet 

  • Choose nonfiction books that interest and challenge your learning. 
  • Read and keep a log on at least nine nonfiction books. (You can create a document in Google Drive.)
  • Choose four of your favorite nonfiction books to visually share information. 
  • Ideas for sharing:

Infographics (See Infographics page in the Nonfiction Addiction folder to the right.)

Comic Life

Animation, such as Frames and Animationish

Apps, such as Puppet Pals, Tellagami and Goanimate

iMovie or video apps

Google Presentation

Popular presentation apps:  Haiku Deck / Explain Everything  (These are paid apps but may be on one iPad from your cart. Check with your integration specialist.)

Educreations and ShowMe are free apps that can also be used for presenting.

 

Option #2 Follow Your Passion (Check and see if this option is available at your school, first.)

  • Choose ONE topic and work with it through the school year using the "Follow Your Passion" criteria in the navigator under Page Tools to the right.  

 

 

Blog it Your Way

 

Directions:  

Do you have a favorite author? Do you have a favorite series? This is the spot for you to do reading YOUR way.  

  • Read 9 books that challenge your reading and pick one to add to our blog. Complete 4 to earn a medal.
  • One book chat needs to show communication and collaboration.
  • One book chat needs to show critical thinking.
  • One book chat needs to show creativity and innovation.
  • One book chat needs to show research and information fluency.Research and Information Fluency BADGE

Audience:  The World Wide Web via our blog using Padlet
